“Some people believe holding on and hanging in there are signs of great strength. However, there are times when it takes much more strength to know when to let go and then do it”. – Ann Landers

At one point in our lives, we have to let go; our job, business, loved ones, pets and scenarios that are no longer serving us. I see letting go as a sign of growth, a test and a pivotal moment of transformation. However, in order to step into the power of change and growth, you must be willing to open your eyes and accept what is in front of you. A great power arises when you accept that you are the creator of your life and of your environment. Accept that your environment is simply a reflection of your life up until now, a reflection of what’s happened to you and what’s going on inside you. Your old things, your old patterns, your old relationships reflect who you have been and what you have built or what you have avoided.

By accepting the full story in front of you, you can step into the present time. There is a famous line in the Alcoholics Anonymous book that says “Acceptance is the answer to all my problems today.” I believe this is true. Acceptance is the beginning of any change. Acceptance brings peace. Acceptance opens the door for support and opportunities to flood your energy field.

Ask yourself this question: By accepting my situation, what can I let go of that is dragging me down or holding me back?

When we can truly accept the experience as is, be grateful for the lessons it has taught us, forgive the other person and ourselves, and when we allow ourselves to feel rather than repress, that’s when we’re taking responsibility for our response to our life.

Keeping our hearts open and allowing ourselves to be vulnerable no matter what is a sign that we trust ourselves and that we trust in life. There’s a lesson in everything that happens in our life. Every experience is a test to see if we’re ready to rise up to the next level in our life and how ready we are for the new possibilities that will come our way.

Therefore, ask yourself these very important questions:

  1. Am I fearful of the future?
  2. Am I blocking off myself to allow new fresh possibilities to come my way?
  3. Do I have full trust in the timing of my life?
  4. Do I accept that uncomfortable change is needed for me to grow?
  5. Have I fully accepted my past?

Your response will indicate where you are at in your journey of letting go and what you still need to heal and work through before you can fully surrender to the past and move forward in your life.
